Changelog
Track the evolution of Wing Tools. This page documents all notable changes, new features, and improvements.
Version 3.0
LatestHighlights
- Multi Device Signal Flow - Stageboxes and Personal Monitor stations now expand to show every physical input, output, or fader individually, each labelled with its real source/output name and fully clickable for tracing - just like a mixer channel
- Personal Monitoring Stations (Beta) - Label your Behringer Powerplay 16 (P16-M) and Powerplay 24 (P24) mixers straight from the snapshot: channel names are read from the console's output routing, honouring the P24Hub's SOURCE SELECT and how it distributes over ULTRANET
- Project Editor - A new "Add Device" dialog to add any supported device, plus at-a-glance misconfiguration warnings on device nodes
- Project Editor - A new unified canvas for your project: lay out mixers, stageboxes, and snapshots once, then drive Multi-Mixer Flow, Stagebox Labels, and the Routing Generator straight from it
- Multi-Mixer Flow - Now project-driven: cross-mixer signal flow renders correctly end-to-end, each mixer shows a live LIVE badge with read-live/use-snapshot controls, and you can connect several consoles at once
- Device Labels - New P24Hub device support (Beta) alongside a corrected FLOW 4VIO connector layout (4 outputs across 2 stereo TRS jacks)
- Licenses page moved to Theta Central; Wing Tools now redirects there automatically
New Features
- Live Mixer - Native (TCP) now also works with the full-size WING Desk, not just Compact and Rack. The Desk identifies itself under a different internal name, which is why it used to be turned away; its node ids were verified against a real Desk before opening it up
- WingBridge helper - macOS: after a helper update, macOS silently drops its "Local Network" permission (the update replaces the app, which macOS treats as a new one) and every console access fails with "no route to host". The helper now checks this at startup, so macOS asks while you are at the computer instead of at the desk, and both the helper window and Wing Tools tell you exactly which setting to switch
- WingBridge helper - The window shows its version (also in the title bar), and says when an update is installed and waiting for a restart, naming the new version
- WingBridge helper - Cmd+Q now quits the helper on macOS, and the window is a little taller
- Live Mixer - One connection dialog everywhere: connecting, discovering consoles, adding one by IP and choosing OSC or Native (TCP) now look and work the same in every tool. The Mixer menu in the top bar focuses on status - helper state, active console (switch it right there), protocol, Write Mode, undo/redo and the activity log - and hands every connection change to that same dialog
- Live Mixer - Snapshot Linter, Routing Generator and WingGPT now offer a "Connect a mixer…" button where you need it, instead of pointing you at the top bar
- Live Mixer - Wing Tools now detects when your router's DNS rebind protection blocks the helper's secure local address, and shows step-by-step instructions to fix it (including the FRITZ!Box menu path) — this is the setting that stops Safari from connecting at all, while Chrome and Firefox quietly work around it. Includes a ready-to-run one-liner for your operating system that fixes it on the computer itself — the way that also works on tour, where the router is not yours to configure
- Routing Generator - The snapshot health check now shows one example finding from your snapshot (severity, title and description), so you can see what the Snapshot Linter would catch before upgrading
- Routing Generator - After generating, a new hint offers to keep the uploaded snapshot in your Files library — one click for logged-in users, or create a free account to start one
- Multi Device Signal Flow - Stageboxes (DL8/DL16/...) and Personal Monitor stations (P16-M/P24) can expand to show their physical inputs, outputs, or faders individually, each showing the real source/output name and clickable to start a trace
- Snapshot Generator - A "Save to your Files" button now sits right next to "Generate Snapshot File" so you can save straight to your library without downloading first; the Snapshot Linter's fix panel got the same button next to "Download fixed snapshot"
- Snapshot Generator, Snapshot Linter and WingGPT - Save the result straight into your Files: pick a name and folder for a new file, or overwrite an existing one. Files created this way remember which snapshot they came from
- Linter - Three new rules spot a bus, main or matrix that is set to stereo but only ever leaves the console on one side of its pair — with a one-click switch to mono (which also repatches the outputs when the used side is the right one)
- Linter - New CRITICAL rule: the talkback input is also used by another channel (for example talkback on LCL.8 while a stereo pair occupies LCL.7-8). Offers to unassign talkback or move it to a free input on the same box
- Project Editor - Powerplay 16 (P16-M) and Powerplay 24 (P24) personal monitoring stations: names are resolved entirely from the snapshot, with a per-device stereo/mono legend override (Copy / Paste / Apply to all)
- Project Editor - New "Add Device" dialog lists every device grouped by connection type with transport badges, replacing the single add-stagebox button
- Project Editor - Upload a snapshot straight onto a mixer (in Copy mode); its filename and upload date are kept for traceability
- Projects - Clearer per-project actions: Edit Metadata, Open Project, Generate Labels, and a new Signal Flow button
- Project Editor - New canvas-based editor ties your mixers, stageboxes, and snapshots into one topology that Multi-Mixer Flow, Stagebox Labels, and the Routing Generator all read from
- Project Editor - Added P24Hub as a configurable multi-transport device (StageConnect/AES50/ULTRANET), marked Beta
- Multi-Mixer Flow - Vertical spine layout with automatic port facing and persisted console positions for a cleaner canvas
- Multi-Mixer Flow - Connect several consoles at once via a new multi-select connect dialog
- Multi-Mixer Flow - Per-mixer live read: each mixer node can show a LIVE badge and switch between reading the live console or using its snapshot
- Multi-Mixer Flow - Collapsible options sidebar and draggable left/right mixers in Patchbay view; toolbar and sidebar reorganized with a new channel-aggregation toggle
- Multi-Mixer Flow - Fullscreen shortcut (F key) for the canvas
- Device Labels - New library snapshot source option for FLOW 4VIO label generation
- Stagebox Labels / Routing Generator - Choose between a project's mixer or an uploaded snapshot when generating labels, with the flow now ordered project-first
- Linter - New W026/W027 rules cover playback-send exceptions and pre/post-fader discipline, naming the offending channels
Improvements
- Limits - Daily upload allowance raised: Free accounts now get 25 uploads per day (was 5) and Basic 50 (was 10) — registering never gives you less than anonymous use
- Linter - A rule with multiple instances (e.g. Stereo Bus Used As Mono) now lists them in bus/channel order instead of detection order
- Files - Saving as a new file now warns if the name matches an existing file in the same folder, since the two would otherwise become indistinguishable duplicates, with a one-click "Overwrite it instead"
- Snapshot Generator - Local (LCL) inputs can now be assigned up to 1-24 instead of 1-8; the WING Rack and WING Compact have more than eight local inputs, so the old cap was wrong for them
- File pickers now read "Upload .snap file", making it clear the file comes from your computer
- Project Editor - AES50 ports now render light blue (StageConnect pink, ULTRANET grey), and the port selected as a device's Source is highlighted
- Project Editor - Device nodes show a warning triangle for detectable misconfigurations (e.g. a P24Hub whose SOURCE isn't connected, or a device with no cable), with the reason on hover
- Routing / Label Generator - Device configuration parameters are shown in the project summary for reference
- Project Editor - "+ Add Stagebox" stays available in simple mode after removing the seeded stagebox
- Signal Flow - Patchbay row channel numbers now line up with their dots; fixed row height/vertical-alignment mismatches and number/name overlap with the expand toggle
- Signal Flow / Multi-Mixer - Trace mode no longer breaks itself when switching View Presets or the Filter In/Out option, and the options panel is easier to discover
- Multi-Mixer Flow - Cable rendering cleaned up to one cable per link with a single port connector and a clean path
- Multi-Mixer Flow - Clearer guidance when a mixer has no snapshot, plus a truthful live/snapshot status badge
- Multi-Mixer Flow - Snapshot-drift prompt now only appears when a newer snapshot actually exists; "choose snapshot" action is clearer
- Multi-Mixer Flow - Accessibility polish: trace toggle exposes aria-pressed, search input is labelled
- Multi-Mixer Flow - Anonymous demo walkthrough updated to match the current UI and shows real mixer names
- Routing Generator - Output Format selection now shown first on every path; snapshot label and editor-return behavior made consistent
- Device Labels - Edit/New button now reflects the currently selected project instead of a stale one
- Navigation - WingGPT now appears in the nav for anonymous and free-tier users, like every other tool
- WingGPT - The "Try Demo" button now opens a working guided demo: a scripted conversation over a sample show file, with a step-by-step walkthrough of the chat, the change preview and the Apply flow. It runs entirely in your browser and uses no AI credits
Bug Fixes
- WingBridge helper - The status window was never actually updating on macOS: its page rendered once and then stayed frozen, so both indicators, the traffic arrows, the listen addresses and the activity log showed their initial state no matter what the bridge was doing. The window now reflects reality
- WingBridge helper - The console indicator no longer flips to "no mixer" 30 seconds after the last read: an idle but perfectly reachable console reported itself as gone. It now reflects the last known outcome, and the arrows keep showing live traffic. The Wing Tools indicator also says when the browser was last seen, so "waiting" after a helper restart is no longer a mystery
- WingGPT - Live console mode could never start: it stayed on "Connecting to your mixer…" forever, no matter how the helper and console were set up. It now connects, and if something else is missing the message says what
- Linter - Far fewer false alarms on real show files. A talkback channel feeding the monitors post-fader is no longer flagged when that is exactly how it is meant to work, sends that are switched on but sit at -inf are no longer treated as carrying signal, a stereo input pair is recognised even when the channel references its right socket, and the same source named on both a stagebox and its card return is documentation rather than a duplicate
- Linter - The same snapshot now produces the same report every time. Channel lists were previously in random order, and because long lists are shortened ("and 7 more"), that changed which channels were actually named from one run to the next
- Linter - The feedback-loop warning now separates a loop that is howling now (critical) from one whose send is closed (warning) - the routing is still circular, so opening that send during the show would feed back immediately. Only the loop itself is listed, never the buses that merely lead into it, so every offered fix really does break the cycle
- Linter - Click routed to a PA fill bus on buses 1-9 was silently not reported, although routing click to the PA is exactly what that check exists for
- Linter - The "match both sides of the stereo pair" fix could write gain and phantom to the neighbouring pair when the channel referenced the right socket. Mid-side pairs are now checked for phantom only, since the level difference between mid and side is the stereo width
- Linter - Two rules were renumbered so their number matches their severity: Listenback Missing is now W040 (was C005) and Talkback Tag Mismatch is now I024 (was C008). Talkback Tag Mismatch also drops from critical to info - across hundreds of real snapshots its premise could not be confirmed. Saved linter configurations keep working
- Project Editor - The DN4816-O now offers its ULTRANET input, and a box fed that way gets the right channels on its labels (the Powerplay channels rather than its StageConnect slot)
- Linter - The channel tag editor now also lists channels with no detected type, so they can be classified at all; keyboards such as Nord or Hammond are recognised as instruments
- Routing documentation - External FX sends are now marked as such on the output they use, and channel and bus lists appear in console order instead of a different order on every generation
- Files - Saving a Snapshot Linter fix, Snapshot Generator result, or WingGPT edit into your Files library could fail entirely ("File too large or invalid form") regardless of the file's actual size
- Snapshot Generator - Wedge monitor buses could stay stereo in the generated snapshot instead of the mono a single-speaker wedge needs
- Signal Flow - Mixer output nodes (BUS/MTX/MAIN) showed the wrong names: labels were shifted by one bus, some were blank, and unrelated bus names could appear. They now match the console (and the Local Outputs row), for both the L and R side of a pair
- Snapshot Generator - Two monitors added without a name no longer end up on the same bus. Unnamed monitors are now named automatically (IEM 1, IEM 2, Wedge 1, ...)
- Device Labels - A P16-M fed from a P24Hub's ULTRANET Out now shows the correct channels: 16 direct in 16-channel mode, or the 12 pair-summed mono channels in 24-channel mode (both source names stacked per fader); the P24's 16-channel fader mapping (8 mono + 4 stereo/dual) is now honoured
- Multi-Mixer Flow - Tracing a signal now reaches a Powerplay 24 (P24) that hangs behind a P24Hub, following the correct SC-Front channel pair to each fader
- Multi-Mixer Flow - Talkback is no longer highlighted when you trace an audio path, and the "mixers crossed" count no longer counts stageboxes or monitor stations as mixers
- Multi-Mixer Flow - Hiding an input group no longer also hides the same-named output group; the input and output directions can now be filtered independently
- Multi-Mixer Flow - No longer crashes when a project contains a console with no physical inputs or outputs (e.g. one fed entirely over AES50, or a receive-only console at the end of a daisy chain)
- Multi-Mixer Flow - A Powerplay 24 behind a P24Hub running in 16-channel mode now traces correctly to every fader (previously the upper faders' feed could dangle)
- Device Labels - FLOW 4VIO now correctly renders its 4 outputs across 2 stereo TRS jacks (connector layout was previously wrong)
- Licenses - Wing Tools' /licenses now redirects to the licenses page on Theta Central instead of showing a hardcoded page
- Auth - Newly provisioned Central accounts get a proper placeholder display name instead of an empty one
- Auth - Fixed a login bug where the session token wasn't returned correctly, and registration now stores it consistently
- Multi-Mixer Flow - Fixed a crash from orphaned trace nodes and stopped click-highlight from flooding when parsing multi-mixer node IDs
- Multi-Mixer Flow - Collapsed mixer ports no longer reposition themselves based on cabling
- Multi-Mixer Flow - Always asks which project to use before opening, avoiding stale state
- Signal Flow - Fixed a bug sending the auth token on reprocess, layout autosave, and upload requests
- Linter - Fixable-issue badges now match the actual set of backend fixes (restores C003/C006/W008)
Version 2.8
Highlights
- Support for new StageConnect stageboxes and StageConnect source gain/phantom.
New Features
- Device Labels / Project Editor - Added new StageConnect devices (FLOW 4VIO, SC88, SC16-I, SC16-O, SC-U), marked Beta (specs from documentation, not yet hardware-verified).
- Source Management - Gain and phantom power can now be copied to/from StageConnect (SC) input sources.
Improvements
- Linter - I014 (Hard Pan No Partner) no longer flags pan-linked sends, reducing false positives now that the WING exposes per-send pan.
Version 2.7
Highlights
- Live Mixer - Choose your connection protocol: read a live WING over the new Native (TCP) link or classic OSC
- Native (TCP) runs alongside other WING software, so you can read your desk in Wing Tools while WING-Edit or Mixing Station stays connected
New Features
- Live Mixer - A connection-protocol choice in the Connect to Mixer dialog lets you pick OSC or Native (TCP); your choice is remembered between sessions
- Live Mixer - OSC is the default (works with every WING); Native (TCP) is opt-in and lets multiple apps talk to the console at once (currently supports WING Compact)
- Live Mixer - New Live Mixer Connection help page explaining pairing, the protocol choice, and read-only vs write mode
Improvements
- Live Mixer - No automatic fallback between protocols: if the chosen protocol can't reach the console you get a clear error and stay on your choice, so connection behavior stays predictable
Version 2.6
Highlights
- Snapshot Linter - One-click fix suggestions: stack the corrections you want and apply them all at once
- Snapshot Linter - File mode: download a fixed copy of your snapshot with every queued fix applied (your original is never changed)
- Snapshot Linter - Live mode: apply queued fixes straight to a connected WING, with a mandatory confirm-and-verify safety step
New Features
- Linter - Many issues now offer one-click fixes (clear or rename names, toggle phantom power, repair sends and routing, mute/unmute DCAs, disable bypassed inserts, fix talkback tags, and more)
- Linter - Fix stack panel collects your chosen fixes; on phones it opens from a Fixes button with a live count badge
- Linter - File mode: a Download fixed snapshot button builds a corrected .snap with all queued fixes, leaving your uploaded file untouched
- Linter - Live mode: an Apply to console button shows every change as old value → new value, writes to the desk only after you confirm, then reads the values back to verify them and reports any mismatch
- Linter - Auto-fix badge on the Rule Reference page marks every rule that can offer a fix
Improvements
- Linter - Alternative fixes for one issue act like radio buttons: choosing one deselects the conflicting option
- Linter - Conflicting fixes across different issues (touching the same name or send) are blocked with a hint, so you can't queue contradictory changes
- Linter - Contextual help link on the fix stack jumps straight to the fix-suggestions documentation
Version 2.5
Highlights
- WingGPT Beta - Chat with your snapshot and propose edits in plain English (Premium during beta, Pro at GA)
- WingGPT - 8 specialist knowledge blocks make the AI context-aware per topic (naming, sends, buses, DCAs, colors, virtual soundcheck, band-member changes, and routing)
- WingGPT - Partial apply: select exactly which proposed changes to keep, add a follow-up comment, and continue the conversation on the result
- WingGPT - Context-sensitive agent activation: each expert block can be set to Off, Auto (classifier decides), or Always — visible as pills on every reply
New Features
- Linter - New monitor-routing checks: post-fader monitor/IEM sends on a FOH desk (where the musician's level would follow the FOH fader), inconsistent pre/post discipline across IEM mixes on a monitor desk, and monitor buses that receive channel sends but reach no physical output
- WingGPT - Ask questions about a snapshot in natural language and get answers grounded in its actual state
- WingGPT - Propose channel, bus, send, DCA, tag, HPF, compressor-preset and direct-patch changes from a chat prompt
- WingGPT - Diff preview before applying — every proposed change is shown row-by-row, your original file is never modified
- WingGPT - Per-channel diff cards: changes are grouped by affected channel/bus/main with the current state shown alongside the proposed changes, so cascading side effects are visible before you click Apply
- WingGPT - Stereo pair awareness: stereo-sourced channels show a partner badge in the diff preview; the chat understands that a single stereo input feeds the channel internally and leaves the adjacent strip free
- WingGPT - Composite "setup performer" / "tear down performer" actions roll a typical singer/musician change into one ask
- WingGPT - Inline ⓘ pills attach reference data (input usage, DCA members, IEM bus map) right where it's relevant in the reply
- WingGPT - Applied-edits sidebar lists every change applied during the session with cross-references to the message that proposed it
- WingGPT - Markdown formatting in chat responses and info pills (bold, italics, lists, inline code)
- WingGPT - Report-issue button in the chat header: opens a pre-filled ticket with the current snapshot, recent turns, and applied edits attached for triage
- WingGPT - 7 new expert-context blocks injected automatically when relevant: Naming & Labels, Send Levels, Bus & Monitor Conventions, DCA & Tags, Color & Icon, Virtual Soundcheck, and Band Member Change
- WingGPT - Band-member-change agent uses an ask-first planning flow: the AI proposes a full personnel swap plan before making any edits, so you stay in control of cascading changes
- WingGPT - Per-change checkboxes on every diff proposal: uncheck individual changes you don't want before applying, with full composite-action expansion so each primitive edit is individually selectable
- WingGPT - Comment field on the apply dialog: add a note alongside your partial selection and the comment is automatically threaded into the next chat turn, keeping the conversation in context
- WingGPT - Activated-agent pills appear on every assistant reply, showing which expert knowledge blocks were consulted for that response
- WingGPT - Bus, DCA, Main, and Matrix names now appear in diff rows alongside channel numbers, so you can read a proposed change without opening the snapshot
- WingGPT - Clink (cross-linked channel) flag surfaced in the routing projection used by the AI, improving accuracy of cross-link-aware recommendations
Improvements
- Linter - Leaner default checks: high-volume advisory rules are now deferred to the Strict profile, so a default lint run surfaces real problems first. The FOH and Monitor Engineer profiles each enable the monitor pre/post check appropriate to that role
- WingGPT - Message numbering with click-flash highlight makes it easy to cross-reference proposed changes
- WingGPT - Applied-edits sidebar replaces the obtrusive post-apply alert and keeps history visible while you work
- WingGPT - Tear-down operations no longer sweep every active send by default — the chat now lists the buses it will touch explicitly, so a single edit can no longer silently mute unrelated routing
- WingGPT - After applying a partial selection the conversation continues on the updated snapshot, so follow-up questions reflect the actual current state
- WingGPT - Stereo badge in diff rows simplified to 'Stereo' only — the adjacent partner channel number no longer appears, reducing visual noise
- WingGPT - Repeated send entries de-duplicated in the baseline summary passed to the AI, preventing inflated context and confusing answers
- WingGPT - Admin test-ask panel now uses the real agent-context assembly path for full parity with the production chat experience
Bug Fixes
- WingGPT - DCA range corrected to 1-16 (the WING has 16 DCA groups, not 8)
- WingGPT - Inline context pills render correctly when the model emits footnote-style references in its reply (now handles all three observed footnote shapes, including footnotes without a colon delimiter)
- WingGPT - DCA rename operations now correctly cover groups 9-16 (previously capped at 8)
- WingGPT - Diff card selection and comment field now reset cleanly when a new proposal arrives
